Colossus Installed!

On a rainy Tuesday in October 24, 2006, the equestrian statue of the rearing horse and rider was slowly lowered by two cranes onto the monument's base at the airport entrance, to the satisfaction of sculptor John Sherrill Houser and associate sculptor, Ethan Taliesin Houser. The 36-foot bronze was then secured to the 8-foot concrete base by the Eagle Bronze Foundry crew. This momentous event, culminated over nine-years of creatiing the world's largest equestrian bronze. El Pasoans, civic leaders, airport staff and curious travelers were impressed by the magestic bronze. The entire installation process of The Equestrian comprised eight days (Oct. 24-31, 2006).

Monument to Civic Parnership

The XII Travelers non-profit board forged the partnership between the City of El Paso/Department of Aviation, and the private sector. The total cost was a little over 2 million dollars of which 40% was from the city and 60% from the private sector. These generous sponsors comprise the business sector, individuals, families and philanthropic organizatons. The sculptors and the board are most grateful for the support and vision from the sponsoring entities as well as from the public. The Equestrian will be dedicated Saturday, April 21, 2007.
