Ethan Taliesin Houser
Associate Sculptor

Ethan Taliesin Houser was born in Tucson, Arizona, 1972.  He received his first instruction from his father, sculptor John Sherrill Houser. As an adolescent he gained a thorough understanding of the bronze casting process by working in a local foundry.  Following studio and art history courses in Tucson he pursued two years of independent studies in Japan.

On his return to the United States he assisted his father on a number of monuments including a 14' figure of "Fray García de San Francisco, Founder of the Pass of the North, 1659," for El Paso, Texas.  He served as Associate Sculptor to his father in creating “The Equestrian” (aka “Don Juan de Oñate”) - a 36-foot high rearing horse and rider. This sculpture, the world's largest equestrian bronze, will be unveiled at the entrance of the International Airport, El Paso, Texas on April 21, 2007.

Taliesin's influence is evident in every aspect of the equestrian from the modeling of the horse’s musculature to the richly developed details and figurative bas-reliefs.

He is now creating a series of small bronzes interpreting Native American life. His mastery of technique and artistic expression is inherent in such works as “The Mediator”, “The Horse Thief” and “The Visionary”. He has also created a spirited study of a small rearing horse entitled “Prometheus” as well as a number of insightful portraits. Taliesin maintains a studio a Mexico City. He has exhibited in Santa Fe, El Paso, San Antonio, Fort Worth, and Mexico City. His work has been featured in national and international publications.

Ethan Taliesin stands upon an unusually solid technical foundation and is possessed of rare talent. He is poised to contribute a new and vibrant voice to the sculptural traditions of our time.
